Earlier in the year, Boaz Feldman teased the puzzling world with a new puzzle product to engage those who are already familiar with his work.
For those unfamiliar with Feldman’s intricate puzzle locks, stop reading, stop what you’re doing - and click here to familiarise yourself.
Ant Hunt follows the likes of the infamous Dan Lock puzzle, as well as some more modern classics such as Loki and PicoLock.
The 'hunt' begins!
The first thing to admire once unpacking the puzzle is the attention to detail on the laser engraving – a very inviting revised logo certainly raises the curiosity on exactly what ‘Ant Hunt’ could do with solving a lock puzzle?
The Puzzle comes with the synonymous black PuzzLocks velvet bag, as well as a rule card and description of the puzzle. I’ve added an image of the description card below;
Monkey see, monkey...do?
Now, when it comes to the actual puzzling value on this lock, this is where Ant Hunt really hits with the heavy punches.
I spent a very good amount of time with the puzzle at the beginning trying to understand what I could see, hear and touch. I was almost inclined to use my last two senses, but I’m fairly sure it would have had the aroma and taste of brass and steel. I don't think that would have been too helpful to me.
I’d managed to get some things done and even a key that does other things after just a few moments of thinking, but then I’d spend the next 2 hours trying the same thing repeatedly expecting a different result. Definition, insanity etc etc.
Then I had a realisation that maybe I’d overlooked one part of the puzzle I thought I was very familiar with, and it hit me that I’d been trying to do something that maybe I’d already done.
With some more expert tinkering (at least that is how it felt in my head) and some sort of logical thinking, I was able to make a huge discovery and the puzzle was solved, Ant and all!
Sweet success - back in the solved state.
I’d say that Ant Hunt is probably one of the trickiest Boaz Feldman puzzle Locks I’ve done, but the theming and execution make it a very thought provoking and fun solve.
Ant Hunt is available now for $149.00 If you purchase using the link down below and don't forget to enter the code WELCOME10 at checkout - you’ll save $10 off your entire order, whether Ant Hunt is in the basket or not!
